Closer to the creek and the older streets inland of the highway you will find pepper trees, sycamores and the occasional eucalyptus windrow. On the bluffs, roots help hold soil in place, so we treat removal as a last resort there and look first at reducing weight and sail area. A dying tree on an unstable slope is a different story, and we will tell you plainly if one needs to come down.

Capistrano Beach has been part of the City of Dana Point since the city incorporated, so city rules and coastal-zone requirements apply here too. Check with the City of Dana Point before major work on a bluff or near the creek. Beach Road is a private, gated community with its own access rules, so we coordinate entry and parking with residents ahead of time. On shared slopes in the Palisades, it is worth talking with the neighbor below before a big removal; we can walk the site with both of you if that helps.
